Ropes & Gray seeks a mid-level associate with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our dynamic Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice group. This role involves advising clients on compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws, managing responses to data breaches, and addressing legal risks related to data protection. Associates work with clients in financial services, health care, life sciences, technology, and asset management sectors, handling complex matters at the intersection of data, technology, and law. This position requires experience in responding to cybersecurity incidents and providing guidance on U.S. and international privacy and cybersecurity regulations..
Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include:
- Advising clients on compliance with data protection and privacy laws.
- Drafting and reviewing privacy policies, data processing agreements, and cybersecurity protocols.
- Analyzing and interpreting regulations governing data privacy and cybersecurity.
- Responding to data breaches and coordinating incident response activities.
- Conducting risk assessments and recommending mitigation strategies for data security.
- Representing clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.
- Monitoring developments in data privacy and cybersecurity laws.
- Providing training and guidance on privacy and cybersecurity best practices to junior associates.
- Collaborating with internal teams to implement data protection measures.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Qualified candidates will have:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the California state bar and in good standing.
- Minimum of 3 years of legal experience interpreting and applying privacy regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and other global privacy frameworks.
- Experience responding to cybersecurity incidents and managing data breach investigations.
- Practical experience with and familiarity with legal AI tools and platforms.
- Strong skills in legal writing, verbal communication, and performing detailed analyses.
- Ability to effectively manage priorities and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
